Common questions

Questions families ask us first.

Is surgery enough on its own?+

No. The implant is the start; rehabilitation is what turns access to sound into meaningful communication gains. Structured AVT is essential.

How soon after implant activation should we start AVT?+

Within the first 2–4 weeks of activation. The early weeks after switch-on are a critical window — the brain is beginning to learn to interpret the new electrical signals and structured listening practice accelerates that learning significantly.

What is auditory-verbal therapy (AVT)?+

AVT is a structured approach to cochlear implant rehabilitation that teaches the brain to interpret sound through the implant. It focuses on listening skills, spoken language development, and parent coaching — building from basic sound detection to full conversation.

How long does cochlear implant rehabilitation take?+

Most children follow a 2–3 year intensive AVT programme, with progress reviews every few months. Online AVT is as effective as clinic-based therapy — and easier to maintain consistently.

My child had their implant years ago but never got proper rehab — can we start now?+

Yes. Late starters still make significant gains with structured AVT. The trajectory depends on how long the implant has been active and the consistency of therapy — both of which we assess and address from the first session.
